How to Make Picasso Portraits

He helped to develop a style of painting known as cubism and was famous for his abstract portraits painted in bright colors. Instructions

    • 1

Use a pencil to draw three simple portraits of yourself or another person from different angles on large sheets of paper. Draw simple facial features in the style of Picasso. Look at Picasso portraits online for ideas and inspiration.

    • 2

Use markers in bright primary and secondary colors to color your portraits. The colors should not be realistic.

    • 3

Draw straight, angular lines across the portraits, dividing them into similar sections. Cut them up along the lines and rearrange the parts on a black piece of paper, to create a design for the final portrait. Combine elements from different viewpoints.

    • 4

Copy the image on to canvas. Paint it with acrylic craft paint, using the preliminary plan as a guide and amending the color where necessary. Keep the colors bright.

    • 5

Finish by outlining the lines of the face and features with black paint. Details such as eyelashes can be painted in crudely. When it is dry, seal the painting with a coat of clear varnish.
