How to Make a Face Silhouette Out of Felt

One of the most defining characteristics you have is your face; it is often the most recognizable feature on your body. Creating a silhouette captures the features of your face and puts them on display. A silhouette is the outlined profile of an object and is often used in artistic creations and for school projects. To create a silhouette of your face, or entire head, use a light source to cast a shadow onto a piece of felt. Have a friend help you trace the silhouette.

Instructions

    • 1

Put a chair near the wall, facing sideways. Set a lamp next to the chair. A lamp with an adjustable neck would work best, but any lamp will do.

    • 2

Tape a piece of white paper to a wall so it is at eye level when you sit in the chair.

    • 3

Position the chair and lamp close enough to the wall so the shadow of your head fits on the paper. Sit in the chair.

    • 4

Trace the outline of your silhouette with a pencil.

    • 5

Remove the paper from the wall and cut the silhouette with scissors.

    • 6

Lay the cutout on a piece of felt.

    • 7

Secure the paper to the felt with push pins.

    • 8

Cut the outline of the paper silhouette with scissors. The result is a felt silhouette of your head and face.
