What did the postmodernist believe about older kinds of art?

The postmodernists believed that the older forms of art had become too restrictive and no longer reflected the complexity of modern life. Rather than trying to create a new, unified style, postmodernists sought to break down the barriers between different art forms and to incorporate a wide range of styles and references into their work. They also rejected the traditional notion of the artist as a genius, and instead saw artists as collaborators who were constantly interacting with their audience.
