Adjust the striplight console so that the lights create a solid and even hue around the entire backdrop. Start with a striplight groundrow in which a series of striplights are placed at the foot of the backdrop to illuminate the painting. Place a plywood block in front of the striplight to help prevent light from spilling onto the stage.
Focus additional lights on any areas in which you decided to increase lighting. Use the lighting control panel for the theater, and use lights that will not be used for performers or other stage elements. Since the backdrop is already painted, avoid using colored lights. The artist has already colored the painting; your job is to illuminate the painting.
String another row of lights across the top of the painting hanging from a batten if there is enough overhead room. This strip of lights is called an overhead striplight electric. Placing lights at the top and bottom of the backdrop will ensure a consistent and even wash of light across the painting. The batten is a long metal pole strung across the top of the stage. Battens are specially designed for lighting.
