How to Teach Manners Through Art

Manners are important to the education of your students to help them succeed in their personal and professional lives. Encourage your students to learn about manners in an entertaining and non-intimidating way. Show your students that manners are significant through art projects that they can enjoy. Your students can relax when creating an art project, and they might not even realize that they are learning valuable skills.

Instructions

    • 1

Create paper bag puppets with your classroom. Pair up the children and have them use the puppets to show the right way people should use good manners in different situations.

    • 2

Pull out paper and crayons for the children to create a mural made by the whole class. Give the children themes to work with such as manners to use when eating and shopping. Have the children create pictures of the correct way to act in different situations.

    • 3

Have the students stage a theatre show about manners. The theme of the show can be Manny Nomanners, who never utilizes manners until she meets someone who always has good etiquette. Have the children help write the script and create the stage.

    • 4

Use markers with the children to make good manners flash cards. One side of the flash card should ask what the student should do in a situation such as when someone sneezes. The other side has an answer such as saying "bless you." The students can draw pictures to accompany the words.

    • 5

Encourage the children to paint word bubbles around the room. Each word bubble should depict words that show good manners. For instance, have the students paint "please" on a piece of paper and cut the paper into a word bubble that you tape to the wall.
