How to Convert to Pantone

Pantone is a popular printing palette created and maintained by the Pantone company. It is most often used by professionals in high-quality printing, and is excellent at recreating a universal color independent of the printing scenario. To convert to Pantone, web sites offer color guides for manual matching, and a few automatic converter sites exist. Since Pantone consists of a set number of colors, converting to Pantone may not result in a perfect match, but most often results in a color very similar to the original.

Instructions

  1. Using a Converter

    • 1

Write down the values of your color in CMYK or RGB, which are two of the most used color palettes. Your color will have one value for each channel. For example, all CMYK colors 4 values, while RGB have 3 (or one hexadecimal value).

    • 2

Convert your CMYK value to an RGB color. This can be done using numerous online conversion sites. Visit the resources section for a link to one.

    • 3

Visit NetFront.nr and click the "RGB to Pantone" converter in the services section. See the resources section for the specific link.

    • 4

Enter the value for each channel or the hexadecimal code for your RGB color. Click "Submit".

    • 5

Select the nearest Pantone color from the samples presented. It will display each color and its distance away from the color you entered to help your decision.

    Manually Matching

    • 6

Locate a Pantone color guide. See the resources section for a link to one.

    • 7

Navigate to the color group that most closely matches yours. For example, the cyan section.

    • 8

Use the CMYK and RGB values listed to find the closest value to yours. You may not find an exact version of your color within the Pantone palette.
