How to Translate RGB to Pantone

RGB defines a color by how much red, green and blue light a particular color contains. This is often indicated by three numbers; one for red, one for green one for blue. This color system is often used for computer graphics and monitors. Pantone is the standard color system that is used by the printing industry. In the Pantone system, each color is assigned a number, which is different from the RGB system. You can use color charts to translate RGB colors into Pantone.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the website "RGB to Color Name Mapping" or "500+ Colours."

    • 2

Find the color you want to translate in the color chart. These charts help you to find your color by name.

    • 3

Use the chart to find the RGB number code for the color. Write this down.

    • 4

Go to a website with a Pantone-to-RGB conversion chart. You can find these charts at websites such as "Sandaleo," "Zeald" or "Goffgrafix."

    • 5

Find the RGB number code in the Pantone chart. The chart also offers a color sample to help you find the code easier.

    • 6

Use the chart to translate the RGB color to Pantone color. The first number in the chart, often labeled "PMS," is the Pantone color. R, G and B colors will usually be listed in separate columns next to this. The final column will list the hexadecimal code for the color, which can be used to produce the color in web-page coding.
