How to Write a Catalogue for an Art Exhibit

Catalogues at art exhibits often provide a means for onlookers to choose the "lens" through which they view the art. In fact, for participants who know little to nothing about art, the catalogue can provide information that is both involving and identifiable, aiding in piquing the interest of the novice. A well-written catalogue, therefore, can not only inform but bring new people to a better understanding of the art world in general. All that is required to write one is attention to detail.

Instructions

    • 1

Research the art pieces in question. You may wish to include blurbs about each art piece or only the more well-known ones. Take note about the dates, inspirations and motivations behind the pieces that you wish to include in the catalogue.

    • 2

Type up the relevant information concerning each piece. These are typically 100 to 250 words each. Make it interesting by including facts or rumors that surround the piece that aren't well known.

    • 3

Send your printed blurbs with pictures of the relevant art pieces to a printer for printing. Make sure that the correct blurbs coincide with the correct pictures.
