Locate businesses or non-profit organizations that offer grant money for artistic endeavors. Local art councils should be your first stop. (See Reference 2)
Research the requirements of the grant for which you are applying. Grant readers appreciate exact information that demonstrates thought and hard work.
Research past winners of the grant for which you are applying. Take a look at projects that have won in the past to get an idea of the kinds of projects that are successful. Tailor your project to be a winning one.
Write your grant. Sometimes applications do not provide specific forms. If not, include your vision, a needs statement, goals and objectives of your project, timeframe, resources needed, resources already provided, budget and benefits to the community. Include an evaluation section to determine if your project met the specified need. (See Reference 1) Grant applications typically range from 3 to 40 pages.
Proofread your application. Grant readers often set aside sloppy applications with numerous grammar and spelling errors when reviewing large piles.
Send in your application with time to spare before the grant deadline.
