What are flies in theatre?

Flies are the overhead rigging systems used in theatres to move scenery, lighting, and other equipment. They consist of a series of ropes, pulleys, and counterweights that are used to raise and lower objects. The flies are typically located above the stage, and are accessed by a catwalk or ladder.

The flies are divided into two sections:

* The gridiron is the upper part of the flies, and is where the pulleys and counterweights are located.

* The loft is the lower part of the flies, and is where the scenery and lighting equipment are stored.

The flies are an essential part of any theatre, and allow for the quick and efficient movement of scenery and lighting.
