Why did people have to stand in the globe theatre?

Not everyone stood at The Globe Theatre. There were three types of seating arrangements: three roofed galleries or tiers of seating, with the gentlemen seated in front and the common people in the back; a central yard area open to the sky in which the groundlings stood as they watched the performance; and a privileged seating arrangement directly on the stage itself, available only to wealthy theatregoers.
