How to Use a Maximizer on Live Sound

Maximizers, or Sonic Maximizers, can be used quite successfully to improve the clarity of live sound. Because of the way loudspeakers function, audio being played through them can often lack clarity and sound muddy. This is because lower frequencies reach the loudspeaker faster than higher frequencies, causing live sound systems to lack the clarity of the signals they are amplifying. Sonic Maximizers increase clarity in a sound system by making up for this time-shift between high and low frequencies.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug the output of your audio mixer into the input of the Sonic Maximizer.

    • 2

Plug the output of the Sonic Maximizer into the input of your sound system's power amplifier. After doing so, the Sonic Maximizer will automatically correct the time-shift anomalies created by your sound system.

    • 3

Adjust the "Low Contour" control to cut or boost the level of the time-aligned low frequency content in your sound system to improve its clarity.

    • 4

Adjust the "Process" control to cut or boost the level of the time-aligned high frequency content in your sound system to improve its clarity.
