How to Make Do-It-Yourself Glitter Face Paint

When correctly applied, cosmetic glitter adds a glamorous, feminine touch to face paint without irritating the skin. Mixing glitter directly into paint, however, gives paint a gritty texture and masks the reflective surface of the glitter. For a sparkly, successful design, first apply the face paint, then add the glitter afterwards.

Instructions

    • 1

Mix a batch of homemade face paint. To do this, combine the 1 teaspoon cornstarch, 1/2 teaspoon water, 1/2 teaspoon cold cream and a few drops of food coloring for each each color. You can also purchase ready-made face paint at costume and Halloween stores in liquid, solid or crayon form.

    • 2

Apply a base coat of face paint with a makeup sponge. Use face paint crayons or a different sponge for each color. Block the base coat in large shapes.

    • 3

Draw small details with makeup brushes, using a different brush for each color.

    • 4

Dip a filbert brush or your finger into the cosmetic grade glitter. Cosmetic grade glitter is finer than craft glitter, and it won't irritate or abrade the skin.

    • 5

Dab glitter on your face wherever you want sparkle. To apply glitter to non-colored areas, coat the target area with clear gel before brushing on glitter.
