How to Make a Glinda Dress

Glinda had the most elaborate clothing of any character in the "Wizard of Oz." In the play "Wicked," she has an even more extensive wardrobe. Luckily, you can use an old wedding dress from a second-hand store as the basis for the costume. A used dress is cheaper than the fabric and notions you need to make a complete new dress. You also save hours of time and effort.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut four 22-inch-wide strips of tulle, 44 inches long.

    • 2

Stack two strips of tulle on top of each other with all edges even.

    • 3

Fold down 1 inch on the top and bottom of the strip; make casings by sewing a straight seam 3/4-inch from each fold.

    • 4

Cut a 9-inch strip of 1/4-inch-wide elastic and thread it through the bottom casing. Thread an 18-inch piece of the same elastic through the top casing. Sew the ends of the elastic together to form rings at the top and bottom of the sleeve.

    • 5

Spread the gathers of tulle evenly around the ring. Make a second sleeve the same way.

    • 6

Decorate the skirt of the dress by painting on stars with glitter paint and gluing on iridescent sequins. Make a 8-point stars by drawing an "X" and making a "+" sign over it.

    • 7

Put on a hooped underskirt or several crinolines with the dress over them.

    • 8

Pull the sleeves on with the opening in the tulle positioned under your arm. Pull the top of the sleeve up over your shoulders. Stuff the sleeves with crumpled tulle or tissue paper by stuffing it through the opening in the underside of the sleeve.
