Assemble the two main support poles of your truss stand as indicated in your owner's manual. Position them in a recessed location as far apart as you can get them and far enough in front your performance space to allow for the maximum amount of room while minimizing audience view obstruction. The position of the truss in front of the performance space is important, as you will want your performers' faces to be illuminated along with the space.
Hang the truss in between your two support poles using the poles' fasteners. Elevate it as high as your poles will allow while still being accessible from the ground.
Hang and angle your individual stage lights from the truss. Don't worry about too many lights being concentrated in one place along the truss, as the nature of a truss' structure is such that it will distribute pressure acting against it along the entire structure rather than at one point.
Wrap the cords from your lights around the truss and connect them to a power strip. Make sure nothing is hanging down far enough to create shadows in your lighting plot.
Use your extension cords to connect your power strip to a power source to complete your truss stand.
