How to Use a Strobe Light

Strobe lights are a common lighting effect used in theaters, clubs and other venues. Strobe lights produce a series of flashes using a xenon flash tube to create a slow-motion effect. In dark environments, strobe lights hinder what your eyes can see. The speed of the flashes can be adjusted by turning the speed adjustment dial. The speed can be adjusted from one to 50 flashes per second.

Instructions

    • 1

Position the strobe light in the area where you wish to create the effect. Use a hand clamp to place the strobe light in a higher area such as trussing or curtain rods.

    • 2

Attach the safety cable by hooking one end of the cable to the strobe light and the other to the trussing or curtain rod. A safety cable is only needed if the strobe light is positioned off the ground.

    • 3

Locate an electrical outlet. Insert the power cord plug into the electrical outlet. Use an extension cord if necessary.

    • 4

Twist the speed adjustment dial to adjust the flash speed of the strobe light. Turn the dial to the left to slow down the flash speed and to the right to speed it up.
