How many actors are usaully on stage at one time in a typical greek play?

In a typical Greek play, there were typically only three actors on stage at one time. This was due to the fact that the chorus played such a large role in these plays, and the actors were often doubled or tripled up in roles. Sophocles was the first to begin to make use of a fourth actor, but even he rarely used more than four actors at once.
