* Lack of content. There was very little music or movies released in quadraphonic sound. This meant that there was not a large enough market for quadraphonic players.
* High cost. Quadraphonic players were much more expensive than standard stereo players. This made them unaffordable for many people.
* Complexity. Quadraphonic systems were more complex to set up and use than stereo systems. This made them less appealing to consumers.
* New technologies. The development of new audio technologies, such as surround sound, made quadraphonic sound obsolete.
As a result of these factors, quadraphonic players died out in the early 1980s.
