Who plays Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in Full Metal Jacket?

Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in Full Metal Jacket is played by R. Lee Ermey.

He was actually a former US Marine drill instructor, which he used to great effect in portraying the role. He improvised much of the dialogue, creating a truly memorable and terrifying character.
