What is Paris doing at the churchyard?

In Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Paris is seen at the churchyard because that is where Juliet has been laid to rest, following her supposed death when she drank the sleep potion. Paris has come to mourn his loss and pay his respects, unaware that Juliet is not actually dead.
