  1. University of Houston Acting School

    • The school of theater and dance of the University of Houston offers a 122 hours credit for a four-year bachelor's theater degree. Applicants must pass an audition. The course requires 86 acting major credits, and 36 hours of credit in allied theater areas. This knowledge can be further broadened in the 45-semester-hour professional theater training master's program from this school. The program offers local theater internships, Alley Theater fellowship opportunities and mentorship from Alley staff.

    Rice University

    • Rice University's School of Humanities offers a Bachelor's degree in Visual and Dramatic Arts, with a 13-course single major or an 11-course double major in theater. This course helps serious theater students to garner in-depth knowledge about acting, direction, technology and set design. Students get to attend guest artist workshops and an opportunity to participate in two Rice University hosted theatrical performances. They can attain reputable Houston theater internships.

    Cliff Osmond Houston Acting School

    • Cliff Osmond has acted in numerous films and plays, is a screenwriter, film director and producer and has conducted acting workshops all over the U.S. His students include Emmy award-winning actor Armand Assante. Classes are conducted as weekend seminars, costing $245, and include two days of scene rehearsals, enactments, taping and playback for critical appraisals. The school promises individual student attention, four days of rehearsal preparation time and advice from a performing mentor.

    Kim Terry Acting Studio

    • Kim Terry, who has been acting for 30 years, has played roles in television dramas like Dynasty and General Hospital. She and her experienced faculty give tips to students on how to pass auditions and get TV or film agents. The Kim Terry studio contacts and performance showcases have professionally placed its students in Houston, Texas, New York and Los Angeles. Group classes include four or five two-hour sessions from January to May. Private classes offer an individual focus. Semi private classes are conducted with two students.

    Sandra Zimmer Houston Acting School

    • The Sandra Zimmer "self expression center" has a $495 acting program with two and a half hour sessions every Thursday evening for six weeks. Meditation, breathing and movement exercise sessions reduce stage fright and anxiety issues. Sandra, who holds an MA degree in theater, a Lessac voice certification, and a BA in psychology, uses energy, color psychology and video tapes to improve students' self-awareness and emotive abilities.
