How to Book Theater Tickets

Plays and theater productions are a popular form of entertainment for both young and old. Whether you're planning to attend a Broadway showing of "Chicago" or the local college's rendition of "The Nutcracker," purchasing your tickets in advance will guarantee you ideal seating. Depending on which venue you'll be visiting, there are a number of ways to book your theater tickets.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine where you wish to be seated in the theater. Orchestra and mezzanine seats are situated on the floor of the theater and offer an excellent view of both the stage and the accompanying orchestra. Box and balcony seats are located along the sides and top rear of the theater, allowing the viewer to survey the stage from above. Prices vary among venues, but orchestra and box seats tend to be more costly.

    • 2

Visit the theater's box office. This is the most direct means of ticket booking and is especially convenient if you live close to the theater. If attendance for your show is expected to be high, visit the box office several weeks in advance of the show.

    • 3

Call the box office to reserve "will call" tickets. When you book via phone, a ticket or multiple tickets are set aside along with your name and contact information. On the day of the show, report to the box office and claim your tickets with a picture ID.

Book your tickets online if your theater offers the service. Online orders can be claimed at the box office as "will call" purchases.

    • 5

Purchase through an online ticketing agency such as TicketMaster, Telecharge or StubHub. Order well in advance of your show to have the tickets mailed to you, or opt for "will call" pick up at the box office. Processing and handling fees might be applied to the cost of your order.
