What is the difference between an Opera and a Musical play?

Opera:

* Typically tells a story through music, with dialogue mostly sung

* Often includes elaborate sets and costumes, and may include ballet, acrobatics or even film

* Typically performed by professional singers, actors, and musicians

* Often based on classical myths or legends, historical events, or works of literature

* Accompanied by an orchestra or other musical ensemble

* Often has a serious tone

Musical play:

* Tells a story through both spoken dialogue and music, with singing and dancing interspersed throughout

* Typically has a more modern or contemporary setting and tone

* May include a variety of musical styles, from pop and rock to classical and Broadway show tunes

* Performed by both actors and singers, who may also play musical instruments

* Often based on popular culture or real-life events

* Accompanied by a band or orchestra, or pre-recorded music
