How to Add Google Map Search to Opera

Opera includes a search box which appears to the right of the address bar on its toolbar. The address bar includes a variety of popular search engines by default, including Google, Bing, Yahoo! and Wikipedia. If you want to install other search engines, you have to add their search engine addresses manually. Opera doesn't support search engine plug-ins, like other Web browsers do. Opera can't automatically add some websites such as Google Maps, but you can fix the automatically generated search engine address and add Google Maps.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Google Maps website in Opera.

    • 2

Right-click in the search box at the top of the Google Maps page and click "Create Search."

    • 3

Click the "Details" button in the Search Engine window that appears to view the Address box.

    • 4

Copy and paste "http://maps.google.com/maps?q=%s" into the "Address" box on the Create Search window, replacing the automatically generated address.

    • 5

Type a keyword such as "gm" into the "Keyword" box. You can use this keyword to search Google Maps from the address bar. For example, type "gm restaurant" into the Opera address bar and press "Enter" to search for nearby restaurants.

    • 6

      Click "OK."
