How to Get Rid of an Opera Splash Screen

A splash screen serves as a visual announcement of Opera's launch. This feature is also called a welcome screen or start-up dialogue. Whether you click the Opera icon, or Opera launches automatically, the splash screen is the first thing you see by default when this popular Swedish browser starts up on your computer or other Internet-enabled device. If you don't want to see the Opera splash screen when Opera starts, you can get rid of it with a quick edit of your preferences.

Instructions

  1. Opera Preferences

    • 1

Click the red "Opera" button on the toolbar. Click "Preferences" on the menu.

    • 2

Select the "General" tab on the preferences menu. Click the arrow next to "Startup" to reveal the menu. Select "Continue from last time," "Start with speed dial," or "Start with home page." Opera's speed dial feature displays thumbnail buttons of webpages you select for fast access to sites you use often.

This preference will replace "Show start-up dialogue" -- the option that activates the Opera splash screen. If you want Opera to start with a home page of your choosing, enter the URL in the home page field. If you enter the URL of your email provider's log-in page, when you launch Opera, instead of seeing a splash screen, your email log-in shows up.

Click "OK" at the bottom of the preferences menu. This saves your changes.
