Why does Othello accusing Desdemona of cheating an act jealousy?

Othello accusing Desdemona of cheating is considered an act of jealousy because of his excessive and irrational fear of being betrayed by her. Throughout the play, Othello's emotions drive him to suspect Desdemona unfaithfulness based on mere suggestions and circumstantial evidence.
