Visitors to one of Charlotte's oldest museums can view exhibits that focus on artists like Mary Cassatt, ancient artifacts such as Native American earthenware, and paintings, illustrations and sculptures from the Contemporary Art collection. The Mint Museum of Art also hosts discussions, art and jewelry-making classes for adults and children, as well as monthly movie nights.

Located one block away from the Mint Museum of Art, this center houses permanent art collections from artists such as Romare Bearden, Henry Ossawa Tanner, Jacob Lawrence and Margaret Burroughs, among others. In addition to its permanent and rotating art exhibits, the center also hosts several programs designed to educate the public about African-American arts and culture.
The Levine Museum of the New South features interactive exhibits that chronicle Southern history during the post-Civil War period from 1865 to modern day. One of its renowned permanent exhibits include "Cotton Fields to Skyscrapers," which covers approximately 8,000 square feet of space. The exhibit displays thousands of artifacts, music, video clips, photos and oral histories that recall economic changes since the Civil War.
Founded in 1972, The Light Factory highlights exhibits in historical and modern photography, as well as digital art. The Light Factory also offers various classes for adults and youth that focus on photography and filmmaking. The museum also hosts film screenings in the categories of animation, narratives and documentaries.
