Romeo and Juliet's wedding is secret because their families, the Montagues and Capulets, are feuding. If their families found out about their marriage, they would likely try to stop it, or even kill them. By keeping their wedding a secret, Romeo and Juliet are able to avoid this conflict and stay together.
