Why is Antigone not the tragic hero in play

While Antigone is often considered a heroine, she is traditionally not considered the tragic hero of the play. The tragic hero in Sophocles' play is her uncle, Creon.

Although Antigone displays heroic qualities such as courage, defiance, and loyalty to her family, her actions ultimately lead to her downfall. It's Creon's choices that ultimately bring about his own downfall and the downfall of others, fulfilling the characteristics of a tragic hero.
