How is polonius advising Claudius regarding foreign affairs and Hamlet?

Regarding foreign affairs, Polonius advises Claudius to be cautious and not to trust the "smiling, smooth, deceiving courtiers" who surround him. He also counsels him to strengthen his alliances with foreign powers and to avoid war if possible.

Regarding Hamlet, Polonius advises Claudius to keep an eye on him and to try to determine the cause of his madness. He also tells Claudius that he has set up a meeting between Hamlet and Ophelia in the hopes that Ophelia will be able to learn more about what is troubling him.
