When did Streets of Rage happen?

Streets of Rage takes place in the fictional city of Wood Oak City, sometime in the 1990s. The game's setting is a gritty and crime-ridden urban environment, where the player takes on the role of one of four ex-cops who are brought together to fight against a criminal syndicate known as the Syndicate.
