Why Macbeth kill macduff?

In the play "Macbeth" by William Shakespeare, it is Macbeth who is killed by Macduff, not the other way around. Macduff is one of the main characters in the play, and he is the one who ultimately defeats Macbeth and avenges the murder of King Duncan.
