What happens to Elena and relationship at the end of vampire diaries season 4?

Spoiler alert: At the end of The Vampire Diaries season 4, Katherine, who was sharing Elena's body, sacrifices herself to save Elena from the hunters and the Other Side's collapse. Elena is devastated by Katherine's death and blames Stefan for not saving her. Damon proposes to Elena, but she rejects him. At the end of the season, Elena finds Stefan in mystic falls, and they get back together.
