On October 12, 1999, Tavernit suffered serious brain injuries from an automobile accident when a drunk driver crossed the center line in his lane on North Ocean Road near Boynton Beach, FL.
Tavernit, then 55 and living in Lakeworth, FL, went from being one of golf’s leading teachers to permanently paralyzed and non-verbal.
Despite his life-altering injuries, his will to fight and regain strength remained strong, along with the constant inspiration of family—most notably Mary Tavernit, Ron’s wife of 33 years—their friends and the South Florida golf community.
