What devices did Shakespeare use in his comedies?

Shakespeare did not use any mechanical devices in the staging of his plays. However, he did use several literary and theatrical techniques to create comic effects. These include:

- Verbal humor, such as puns, wordplay, and comic malapropisms

- Physical humor, such as slapstick, pratfalls, and mistaken identities

- Situational humor, such as misunderstandings, coincidences, and farcical situations

- Character humor, such as caricatures, fools, and eccentrics

- Parody and satire, which poke fun at other literary genres and social conventions
