Search songwriting websites to help you get ideas for your lyrics. There are many websites devoted to helping songwriters compose every aspect of a song, including lyrics. Incorporating these websites into your own writing can be beneficial and inspirational as you develop a song lyric.
Sign up for a free account with Noteflight. As of October, 2010, it is the only online music composition software available. Use it to write lead sheets for your lyrics. A lead sheet is simply a piece of sheet music with your song lyrics and the melody notes.
Log in to your Noteflight account and click "New Score." Choose "Private" or "Public," depending upon whether you want to share your song lyrics with others or not.
Go to the "Score" menu, choose "Text," and select "Lyrics" to type in the words to your song. Add notes to the words of your song by clicking on the music staff above each syllable of your song lyrics. A palette will pop up. Choose the note you want from that palette.
Listen to the melody of you song lyrics to make sure they sound correct. Do this by selecting "Play from Start" from the "Play" menu. When you finish writing your lyrics, print a copy of the lyric sheet from the "File" menu. You can also save the composition as a WAV or MDI file to listen to later.
