Pocahontas (c. 1595–March 1617), also known as Matoaka, was a Native American woman best known for helping to establish peaceful relations between the English colonists at Jamestown, Virginia, and the powhatan Confederacy, a Native American alliance led by her father, Chief Powhatan.
