How to Make a Portfolio for a Car Auto Body & Paint

Auto body shops offer services to improve the looks of their customers' vehicles. Whether looking to pull out a dented bumper or obtain airbrushed art pieces on their hood, the prices and skills of technicians fluctuate and customers or potential employers want to see what you can do before hiring you for a job. Create a portfolio of auto body and paint work you have completed to give potential clients or employers a better idea of the quality and variety of your work and you will be more likely to get the job.

Instructions

    • 1

Take photos of body work and paint jobs you have completed. Start with a "before" photo of the cars. Show the succession of the work by capturing each step of the painting or body work with a photo to show the succession of the work.

    • 2

Take an "after" photo when the job is complete. Ensure the car is clean and in good lighting for the photo. Move around the car when taking the photos to get all angles of the work. If a paint job is only on the hood, specifically take photos of the hood and zoom in for closeups of the artwork.

    • 3

Print the photos. Organize the photos by car, and in order from start to finish. Fill out labels for each car with make, model and year information to place above the "before" picture of each car. Make labels for the "after" photo of the car with information about the length of time taken to complete the project and the price.

    • 4

Purchase an art portfolio from a craft or art supply store. Tape the car photos and labels on to the sheets provided in the portfolio and place them in the protective clear sleeves of the book. The protective, clear sleeves prevent dirt, dust and fingerprints on the photos when a person is looking at your work.

Add certificates from airbrushing or technical classes to a page in the portfolio. If using the portfolio for job hunting, place a copy of your resume inside the portfolio. Place business cards with your contact information in the front pocket of the portfolio for potential customers to take home and to give to family and friends.
