Thomas the Train Attractions in Ontario

Watch the joy of children as they engage with one of the most popular children's characters of all time. For over 65 years, children all over the world have delighted in the actions of Thomas the Tank Engine, often referred to as Thomas the Train, and his many friends on the fictional island of Sodor. If you live in or visit the province of Ontario, the Thomas experience goes beyond the television set and toys. Thomas the Tank Engine comes to life with valuable lessons about friendship and cooperation at three Ontario attractions.
  1. "Thomas and Friends Live! On Stage"

    • Buy tickets for the March 2011 musical production of "Thomas and Friends Live! On Stage" at Toronto's Sony Centre for the Performing Arts. The family-oriented musical runs from March 18 to 20, 2011 and features stories from the fictional island of Sodor, aimed at equipping child viewers with life lessons about friendship, sharing and perseverance. There are several show times over the three days. Call for more information, showtimes, and to purchase tickets.

    "Leader of the Track Tour"

    • Visit the Elgin County Railway Museum in St. Thomas, Ontario, which has hosted Thomas the Tank Engine annually. In 2011, the "Leader of the Track Tour" visits the museum July 15 to 17 and July 22 to 24. Children can hop aboard Thomas for a real train ride, participate in activities and meet Thomas characters such as Sir Topham Hatt. In addition, the museum offers children the opportunity to witness first-hand the history of train travel in the province of Ontario, with examples of various engines and historic train stations.

    "Meet Thomas & Friends"

    • Meet Thomas and his many friends from the island of Sodor during summer activities at Ontario Place in Toronto. This annual event is a great opportunity to witness live theatre and participate in a meet and greet event during the course of summer vacation. Ontario Place does not have its 2011 operations schedule complete, but watch for expected upcoming appearance dates on the Ontario Place website.

    Other Activites

    • Traveling to Thomas the Tank Engine events and attractions may be difficult for those not living in southern Ontario, where the events take place. If the distance from these events is too far or the attractions cost prohibitive, there are plenty of Thomas activities available for children. Games, video and other interactive activities, including iPad applications can be found on the Thomas the Tank Engine website.
