Stagedoor Manor is one of the most acclaimed and highly reputed drama camps for young adults. Lea Michele, Natalie Portman, Zach Braff and Robert Downey Jr. have all attended in the past. This camp's popularity means that it sells out fairly quickly; registration for the next year's camp begins in May of a current year. Students take top-tier classes in acting, television technique, dance and voice. Horseback riding and tennis, among other traditional camp staples, are offered as well.
High school students age 14 to 17 are invited to participate in this prestigious summer offering. As you might guess by the academy's name, there is an emphasis on exposing campers to the ins and outs of cinema acting and production. Camp sessions take place both in New York City and in various international locales such as Paris, Florence and Switzerland. There are additional offerings for youngsters who are interested in music videos and broadcast journalism.
Teenagers who would like to specialize in film acting will likely enjoy what's on offer at SOCAPA. Young stars between 13 and 19 years of age can attend camps in New York City, Los Angeles or Vermont. College course credit is also available for high schoolers. Acting is taught at SOCAPA through two popular styles, the Method and Meisner techniques. Students also do extensive work on monologue selection. At camp's end, every camper films a professionally shot scene.
Tony- and other award-winning Broadway performers are the instructors at this camp, based in the New York City metro area. Musical theater technique, Broadway dance, stage combat, makeup and more are all included in the well-stocked curriculum. Camps take place in Manhattan, Long Island and New Jersey. There is no experience needed to participate, just an interest in the world of performance. However, an audition-only showcase is offered to advanced students, letting them perform in front of industry from both theater and film.
