Student rush tickets are available only on the day of the show. Some theaters sell these tickets on a first-come, first-served basis, while others hold a lottery-type drawing. (See the related eHow, "How to Get Rush Tickets to a Broadway Show.")
Contact the theater box office of the show you want to see and inquire about the theater's student rush policies. You must have a valid student ID card and purchase the tickets with cash.
Ask the box office if they use a lottery system or if it is first come, first served. Find out what time you should arrive at the box office.
To apply for the student rush lottery, get a lottery card at the box office and write your name and the number of tickets you want on the card. You will receive only one card and can buy up to two tickets.
Cross your fingers. If it is a lottery, the drawing will be held about 30 minutes after cards are given out. If you are one of the lucky names drawn, you will then line up at the box office window to buy tickets.
Consider joining the Theatre Development Fund. This nonprofit organization offers a cheap yearly membership. Once you are a member, you can get great Broadway discounts.
Look into the High 5 program if you are a junior high or high school student. They provide $5 tickets to Broadway shows. Call (212) 445-8587 to inquire.
Think about using the School Theatre Ticket Program in which librarians, teachers and students get up to 50 percent off Broadway ticket prices. Call (212) 354-4722 to inquire.
