How to Get General Rush Broadway Tickets

A trip to New York City is incomplete without catching a Broadway show. These days, however, ticket costs can hold back many theater fans from seeing that musical for which they've been waiting. Theaters on Broadway offer lower-priced tickets on the day of the show, called "rush tickets," for those willing to put in extra time and effort.

  1. How to Purchase General Rush Tickets

    • 1

Pick a show you would like to see, and find out where it is playing. Policies vary by theater on when rush tickets are sold and the number available.

    • 2

Contact the theater to learn its rush ticket policy. Most don't sell rush tickets before the day of the show. Some may make them available when the box office opens while others may not begin selling rush tickets until 30 minutes before the show starts. Also, it's wise to ask how many rush tickets will be available. A greater number of rush tickets means you have more time to get to the theater before the tickets are gone.

    • 3

Arrive early to wait in line at the box office for rush tickets. If the show is popular, fewer rush tickets will be available and you may want to arrive extra early.

    • 4

Purchase rush tickets. If you are a student with a current ID, tell the box office attendant since additional discounts may be available. Discounts might also be available for senior citizens or for SRO (Standing Room Only) tickets.

    • 5

      Enjoy the show.
