How to Find Old Hip Hop Songs

Hip hop music is known for its stylistic elements including funky, rhythmic beats, sampling, DJing and beatboxing. The terms "hip hop" and "rap" are often used interchangeably to describe the sound, although the hip hop subculture is much broader in scope than the music. Afrika Bambaataa, Grandmaster Flash and DJ Kool Herc spread the hip hop movement at block parties in New York City in the late '70s and early '80s. (Ref 5) Some of the genre's defining names include Public Enemy, A Tribe Called Quest, Jungle Brothers and De La Soul.
