How do you not cry on a song meant to make cry?

While everyone experiences emotions differently, here are a few tips you could consider:

Manage expectations: Try to not have strong expectations about how you should feel while listening to the song. This can often lead to frustration if you don't feel the emotions you think you should. Accept that it's normal to respond differently.

Distract yourself: Engage in an activity that requires focus and attention. Doing something physically active or engaging in a stimulating conversation may help divert your mind and prevent you from becoming overwhelmed by the song.

Reframe your thoughts: Instead of focusing on the emotions the song is trying to evoke, concentrate on the lyrics or the music itself. Analyze the song's structure, its lyrics, or the different layers of sound. This can help shift your focus away from your emotional response.

Allow yourself a moment: It's okay to acknowledge that the song is evoking emotions. If tears come, allow yourself to feel them for a brief period. Sometimes letting yourself experience these emotions can help in processing and releasing them.

Take a break: If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed, it's completely acceptable to take a break. Step away from the song, and engage in a different activity that makes you feel calm or joyful.

Remember that everyone has a different emotional response to music, and it's okay if you don't cry while listening to a particular song. Don't pressure yourself to feel a certain way. Enjoy the music in your own way, and don't be afraid to explore other songs or activities that bring you happiness and joy.
