Why did Shakira sing time for Africa?

Shakira did not sing the song 'Time for Africa'. The song was a charity single that featured over 40 popular singer/musicians to support the people of Ethiopia at the height of the famine in July 1985. However, Shakira was only 8 years old at the time, thus, could not possibly be a feature.
