How to Connect a Record Player to a Computer to Make Audio CDs

Many people still have their old turntables and records. Some of these records are not even available on CD. CDs are much easier to play. If your records are not available on CD, you can use your record player and your computer to make your own CDs. You cannot, however, connect the record player directly to the computer, so there are a few things you will need.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn your computer off and unplug everything before proceeding. Locate the audio/auxiliary output connection on your record player and disconnect it, as this is the cord you will use. The ends are colored red, white or yellow.

    • 2

Plug the adapter cord in to the audio/auxiliary input on the amplifier. Thus, the cord should run from the audio/auxiliary output on the record player to the audio/auxiliary input on the amplifier.

    • 3

Locate the audio/auxiliary output on the amplifier. Plug the same type of cord that is connecting the record player to the amplifier into the amp output to ensure that the voltage stays constant.

    • 4

Plug the cord from the audio/auxiliary output of the amplifier into the audio/auxiliary input of your computer. This completes the circuit and connects the signals.

    • 5

Check that all appropriate cords such as ground connections are connected from the turntable to the amplifier and from the amplifier to the computer. Open Windows Media Player and play a record through the player. The option to burn the music and download it to an audio library comes with your music program.
