How to Make Beats With a Computer Keyboard

Music production has become accessible to anyone with a proclivity to music. It was once thought only to be available to famous producers with expensive equipment. When you think of beat making, you think of keyboards, guitars, recording studios and drum machines. Computer keyboards are now a part of the beat making equation. There is music software available that only requires a keyboard and your time to make a beat.

      Download FL Studio 9 (see link in Resources). Ensure that you have all the latest updates and samples with your FL Studio product.

      Explore the interface so that you get a feel for the music software. Search through the music samples. Play with the playlist and the sample loader, so you can get a basic understanding of how everything functions.

      Click the "Options" feature in the top-left hand corner. Scroll down to to the feature that reads "Switches." Check the option that reads "Typing Keyboard to Piano."

      Right-click a sample to send it to the sample loader. Right-click the sample again once it is loaded unto the loader. Press the option that reads "Send Sample to Piano Roll." You are ready to begin creating a beat with your keyboard.
