Acquire mixing software with the ability to burn CDs. Not all audio software can accomplish both tasks. A particularly excellent option is Reaper, which offers a free fully functional program for a 30-day trial. The software also remains functional after the 30 days. A competitive license fee is requested after the trial but not required to run the program.
Load the tracks you wish to mix into the software. In Reaper, use the "Track" menu to insert a new track for recording. Alternately, use the "Insert" menu's "Media File" option to add existing audio to the program window for mixing and burning to CD. This is the best option for users who wish to use the mixing software solely as a program to create CDs from other audio files. If you add multiple media files, they are placed together in a row.
Click in the audio time line window where you would like create a CD track designation, such as the start of an audio file or song. Press "Shift+M" on the keyboard to add a CD marker. Repeat for each location that starts a new track. Reaper will divide the audio in the window into multiple CD tracks based on these markers.
Click the "File" menu and the "Render" command. A pop-up window will appear.
Choose a sample rate of "44100" and an output format of "Audio CD Image" in the pop-up window.
Press the "Render" button. The file will be processed for CD. This may take a few minutes, depending on the number and length of the songs in your mix. Another pop-up screen will appear when this process is complete.
Insert a blank CD-R into the computer's CD-R drive.
Select the "cdrecord/cdrtools" option from the "Method" drop-down menu. Click the "Burn" button. The program will burn the tracks to the CD-R. The process will take a few minutes, depending on the speed of your CD-R drive and the length of the songs.
