Midlands Audio Institute is an accredited school that teaches courses through the Midlands Technical College Continuing Education program in Columbia, South Carolina. The program offers courses in studio recording, the music business, music theory, live sound reinforcement, digital music and video production. Students learn by using Pro Tools, Reason and Final Cut Pro software and equipment, and can earn a vocational certificate after 12 months of training.

Clemson University offers a bachelor's degree in Audio Technology through its Performing Arts Department and prepares students for a wide variety of career opportunities in the audio industry. In addition to audio engineering, students also learn about acoustics, music theory, music history and live sound reinforcement. All graduating students produce a final CD in their senior year and use the audio facilities at the Brooks Theater and the Little John Coliseum, as well as the school's Pro Tools-based studios, to learn their craft.

The University of South Carolina offers full degree programs in music. As part of their coursework, students can take elective courses in recording studio techniques, digital audio technology, and multimedia production, and use the school's in-house recording studio. The facility includes a 65-input Tascam digital console, a Digidesign Pro Tools HD system, and a variety of professional software plug-ins and outboard signal processing equipment.
