How to Transfer From a Tape to a CD

You can transfer music from your cassette tape to a CD using your tape player and a computer. Most new cars don't even come with tape players anymore, so if you have some favorite songs on tape and don't want to buy all new CDs, you can use these recordings to make CDs or MP3s to play in your car. It's especially important to transfer music from tapes as soon as possible because they will deteriorate over time.

Instructions

    • 1

Put the cassette inside the cassette tape player and rewind it to the beginning.

    • 2

Install a recording program on your computer. You can install a free, downloadable program called Audacity to either PC or Macintosh system platforms.

    • 3

Connect the cassette player to the sound card in your computer with the audio cable. Open Audacity and click record.

    • 4

Record the entire length of the tape onto your computer. You can divide the songs individually using this program. Save the files in a burnable folder.

    • 5

Place a blank CD into the CD tray of your computer. If a dialogue box for the CD doesn't open up automatically, open the file in My Computer and select the Burn option. If you have a Macintosh, create an archived version of this file and burn it to the CD.
